Why Bulletproof Clothing?

For obvious reasons, really. Think about it. All you need is a few seconds to do so. Gun violence in the U.S. each and every year claims thousands of lives, leaving behind a lot of injured personnel as well.

In 2013, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, firearms and this does not include pellet guns and BB, were the cause of over 84,000 nonfatal injuries. That equates to 26.65 in 100,000 U.S. citizens. In the same year, there were 11,208 deaths caused by homicide – 3.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The number of gun-related suicides stood at over 21,000. 505 deaths were caused by accidental firearm discharge, with a further 281 firearm-related deaths that were labeled as “undetermined intent”. Total firearm-related deaths in the U.S. in 2013: 33,169. And for obvious reasons, control and ownership of guns in the country are among the most hotly debated issues.

Now, okay, if you’re intent on killing yourself with a firearm, no amount of bullet proof clothing is going to stop you – unless you get really, really fortunate. If your firearm accidentally discharges, well… there is every chance you may be just fine if you’re decked out in bulletproof clothing.

But what about all those non-fatal injuries and homicides caused by firearms? Surely, without a shadow of a doubt, those numbers could be drastically reduced if bullet-proof clothing was relatively commonplace in the U.S.

Future of Bulletproof Clothing

There are a number of reputable tailors across the country that cater specifically to clients who wish to invest in bullet proof clothing. Bullet proof suits are becoming fashionable. And when you consider that bullet proof suits can stop a 9mm bullet dead in its tracks (equivalent to NJI level II-A standard and even III-A) with absolutely no injuries sustained by the suit’s wearer, you can see why there’s a relatively sudden demand for such apparel.

The suits look and feel like any other; they display little to no sign of their ‘special’ quality. And although such clothing has been publicly available for years, typically it would be in the form of relatively heavy outerwear or casual clothing.

Thanks to new advances in fabric that’s bullet-resistant, solid protection is now available in the guise of the most fashionable business wear. The garments contain a number of sheets of a fabric known as carbon nanotube within the lining. This carbon nanotube is manufactured by an anonymous company that provides the U.S. Army Special Forces with personal armor. The sheets are more flexible, far lighter, and also thinner than the well-established Kevlar, and can only be shaped for tailoring by using a band saw, given their resistance to damage.

The Ultimate Cost

Thus, you can bet your bottom dollar, if you have any leftovers, that these suits will not be flying off the shelves just yet. But for the rich, the powerful, and for those who are involved in business that comes with a risk, this sort of offering may just represent the ideal purchase.
